Certification For Vegetarian Food

World’s 1st Certification For Vegetarian Food ‘Sattvik’ Launched

The world’s first vegetarian food safety and regulatory compliance (Certification For Vegetarian Food) scheme for vegetarian and allied adherents – The ‘Sattvik’ Council Certification scheme – launched on Friday in Delhi with global audit partner Bureau Veritas.

Moreover, This is the first of its kind global-level certification that will be a one-stop for all vegetarians around the world, similar to the ‘halal’ certification preferred by Islam and ‘Kosher’ certification preferred by Jews. It provides four certifications: ‘Sattvik Sattvam,’ ‘Sattvik Vegetarian,’ ‘Sattvik Vegan,’ and ‘Sattvik Jain.’

The goal of the Certification For Vegetarian Food scheme

Founded by the Sattvik Council of India, the scheme’s main goal is to provide a “Vegetarian Environment” for vegetarian/vegan consumers in India and global markets by developing SOPs in all applicable areas with the potential for a guaranteed 100% vegetarian environment.

“Sattvik is a catch-all term. There are 200 variations, for example, food, hospitality, textiles, dairy, and so on. We didn’t want a euphemism. So we settled on this umbrella term,” Abhishek Biswas, founder of the Sattvik Council of India, told IANS.

In addition “Our certification seeks to improve the overall performance of vegetarian food quality and food safety management systems for consumers.” We are not interested in promoting vegetarianism. “We are simply a standard provider, similar to an ISO,” he explained.

“People are going to contact us. We now have operations in 170 countries. Veritas is our partner; we have nothing to be concerned about,” Biswas added.
