The Government of India created the National Institute of Food Technology Entrepreneurship and Management (NIFTEM) in response to the food industry’s persistent demand for an apex body to serve as a “One Stop Solution Provider” sector’s various problems.

In all of its scholarly endeavours, NIFTEM strives to be creative and world-class. NIFTEM has been granted deemed university status by the UGC under the De-novo category, reserved for institutions dedicated to advances in teaching and study in new areas of expertise as a singular achievement. The Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology (IIFPT) is a leading Research and Educational Institution under India’s Ministry of Food Processing Industries.

Thanjavur, the ancient capital of the Chola Kingdom and the granary of Tamil Nadu, is the location of the Institute. The IIFPT is involved in the R&D of food grain production, value addition, by-product utilisation by bio-processing, process and product creation with its modern laboratories equipped with high-tech instruments.

IIFPT first known as IICPT (Indian institute of Crop processing Technology) later in 31st March 2017. In its upgraded form, IIFPT will focus on providing solutions to all food processing areas including fish, meat and dairy products processing through intensive research and development activities.

Candidates with a minimum OGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 or 7.00 out of 10 or 70% aggregate alone who have completed a course credit scheme are eligible to apply. For SC/ST applicants, however, a passing grade in the qualifying degree is necessary. Selection made solely based on merit. Undergraduate grades (30 per cent weightage) and the IIFPT Entrance Examination will be used to determine rank (70 per cent weightage). The IIFPT Entrance Examination will be held only at the main campus of IIFPT Thanjavur.

3. Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI)

The CSIR-research CFTRI’s emphasis broadened to include Engineering Sciences, Technology Development, Translational Research, and Food Protection and Safety.

Established on October 1, 1933, as the University Department of Chemical Technology (popularly called UDCT) of the University of Bombay (now Mumbai).
