The beginning of Parle

It was year 1928 and the rage of Swadeshi Movement, when Mr. Mohanlal Dayal founded the house of Parle. It is a well known saying that no beginning is small until it stops. The same was the case of Parle, they started their first company in 1929 in Vile Parle, Mumbai with merely 12 people for making confectionery. Before opening the factory, Mohanlal Dayal was indeed a dusting boy and tailor. From there he build up Parle into sweets, toffees, soft drinks and biscuits, and also known as a person who brought joy and happiness to millions of people.

In Parle’s early years, a variety of sweets and toffees were made from glucose, sugar and milk, with different flavors. These sweets and toffees were marketed as Pure Confectionery and Gold Star (sweets and peppermints).

Strengthening the foundations of Parle

Who can forget G for Genius? In 1938, the company baked its first biscuit “Parle Gluco“. It was the focused to address the nutrition, and energy to the consumers with great taste.

In the early 1940’s Parle came up with India’s first salted crackers, Monaco. Monaco was a party thing. It’s appealing taste attracted the consumers and it became common for tea parties and gatherings. Moreover, monaco was preferred with different toppings such as cheese, salad, sheek kebab and tomatoes.

In the late 1940s, they created India’s longest oven measuring 250 feet. It was this period only when Parle’s introduced new packaging technologies for biscuits. After India’s Independence, the conditions of the country to produce wheat didn’t favored the production of Gluco and Monaco. But at this moment Parle provided option for barley biscuits. Always taking care of customers!!

Introducing the new range

Cheeslings!! Who don’t enjoy them? Cheeslings were launched in 1956, a crispy and savory snack. Cheesling was the entry point for Parle into snacks segment. Even today, it is one of the most likable product in market.

It seems that they never stopped to amaze their customers. In 1963 and 1966, two products i.e., Kisme and Poppins helped to extend the confectionery segment of the brand. I still remember how these two made my childhood awesome. Poppins is the most lickable, likeable and lovable confectionery range of the Parle containing different fruit flavored sweets.

Later, Parle launched Jeffs, a savory biscuit for snack lover. Jeffs were characterized as bite size thin biscuits with unique taste and exotic flavor. Jeffs were the new ace among the biscuits which people enjoyed. These were foil packed to improve its taste and flavor at the consumer end.

In 1971, they become the first Indian food company who achieved “Monde Selection Award for taste, hygienic production and packaging”. Not only this but they continuously managed this award for 4 successive years. This is more than enough to say that they always emphasized on providing quality product to consumers. Moreover at those time, Parle was leading exporter of biscuits. All due to highest production capacity plants.

Don’t you think we forget something? Krackjack!! The sweet and salty biscuit was introduced by the brand in 1974. This biscuit also resulted in success of Parle and even today many of us still prefer Krackjack.

Over the years Parle has amazed us with its different type of biscuits, and toffees but they never compromised on the quality and nutrition of products. This is the sole reason why they have gained trust over the generations.Nonetheless, Nielson survey 2011 declared Palre the world’s largest selling brand of biscuits.
